This course examines a wide range of contentious politics in modern China, from the 1911 Revolution through the Cultural Revolution and the Tiananmen Movement to recent protests by workers, peasants, religious followers, middle-class property owners, and lawyers. In addition to contention by Han Chinese, this course also examines contention by minorities.
