How to reserve and use the CDS Sound Studio.

Quick Start Guide

Reserve Sound Studio Online

  • Reservations available in 30 minute blocks, up to 2 hours per day, up to 8 hours per week
  • Reservations available up to 6 weeks in advance
  • No food or drink is permitted

Reserve the Studio

Request the key from the Lower Level Circulation Desk.

Use the Sound Studio

  • Hardware
    • iMac
    • Yeti USB Muti-Pattern Microphone
    • Headphones
    • VOIP Phone (ND faculty/staff/student organizations - please bring your authorization code to make off-campus calls)
  • Software
    • Audacity
    • GarageBand
    • Skype
    • QuickTime

Clean Up the Studio and Return the Key

  • Return the equipment to original positions
  • Turn off the lights
  • Log off the iMac, if necessary
  • Lock the Studio door
  • Return any accessories you borrowed
  • Return the key to the Lower Level Circulation Desk

Web Conferencing (Google Hangouts, Skype, Zoom, etc.)

  • Always perform test calls with the same settings and conditions you plan to use for your "real" call in advance, so you have time to troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
  • Use the iMac's native webcam, microphone, and speakers by selecting them in your web conferencing application, or by unplugging the microphone and headset from the iMac.

VOIP Calls

  • If you wish to use the VOIP phone to dial off-campus, you must use your own authorization code (issued by your own department/unit). Please have your authorization code handy!
     
  • To receive a call, direct the caller to dial (574) 631-7844.
