Getting Started Guide

Reserve Transcription Station Online

  • Reservations available in 30 minute blocks, up to 4 hours per day, up to 8 hours per week
  • Reservations available up to 4 weeks in advance
  • No food or drink is permitted

Use the Transcription Kit at the Transcription Station

  • Hardware: high-performance, dual-monitor PC
     
  • Software: ExpressScribe
  • Step-by-Step:
    • Log into the computer with your netid and password
    • Open ExpressScribe program
    • Load your audio file
    • Plug in headset (if you need a headset, the 1st Floor Circulation Desk loans them out)
    • Plug in foot pedal
    • Use your preferred word processing software to type the transcription, using the foot pedal to pause, advance, and rewind the audio while your hands are free to type
       
  • In the event the pedal is broken or missing from the Station, please visit the 2nd Floor Technology Commons Desk

The Technical Assistant on duty at the Technology Commons Help Desk can remind the user that they must vacate the Station for your reservation. If you would like additional assistance, any CDS staff member is happy to speak with the user on your behalf.
