The Architecture Archive is located within the Architecture Library in the Walsh Family Hall of Architecture and is a part of Hesburgh Libraries. It supports the research and curricular needs of the faculty, students, and guests of the School of Architecture and the greater Notre Dame community. The archival collections provide access to historical documentation of significant New Traditional and New Urbanist architects and firms, architects/firms who have won the Richard H. Driehaus Prize at the University of Notre Dame, a retrospective collection of student work, rare and exceptional materials, and documentation related to the study of classical and traditional architecture and urbanism. These archival collections are appraised for their enduring historical, evidentiary, and legal value following best practices for collection development and represent a unique assemblage of contemporary materials that are impactful and inspirational research resources.
Highlights of the Architecture Archive include the Léon Krier Collection, the records from the community of Seaside, Florida and the Seaside Research Portal, and the archives of the Driehaus Laureates including the Robert Adam Collection and Allan Greenberg Collection. Collections include sketches, preliminary designs, technical drawings, prints, slides, notebooks, correspondence, and architectural models. Items within these collections can be used to learn more about a specific architect or their style, to research individual buildings, to study the built, and unbuilt, environment, and to understand urban planning.
Access to the Architecture Archive’s collection is limited until 2025 as we move finding aids into the ArchivesSpace system. If you have questions, please contact the Architecture Archivist, Morgan Wilson.
