Overview of Architecture

The Architecture Library is a branch of the Hesburgh Libraries of Notre Dame and is located within the Matthew and Joyce Walsh Family Hall of Architecture. The library is comprised of over 36,000 volumes and hundreds of periodicals on the built and planned environment. Collection strengths include classical & traditional architectureAmerican architectureItalian architectureLatin American architectureNew Urbanismsustainable design & planning, and urban planning. The Architecture Library supports the research and instructional needs of the School of Architecture's NAAB-accredited programs including the five-year undergraduate program and its two- and three-year Master of Architecture and Master of Architectural Design and Urbanism programs. 

Beginning Thesis Research

Once your topic is approved you should set a meeting with the librarian to plan your research and precedent study. The library will help you to acquire materials needed for your project. Precedent study should include location, building type, and programmatic resources. Once a research plan is in place follow these steps:

  1. Search for Books using WorldCat
  2. Search for Articles
  3. Search for Local/Regional Resources
  4. Order Books & Articles
  5. Acquire Maps & Images
  6. Organize Citations

Research Consultation - books, articles & precedent January 31, 2024
Intro Sketchup Workshop - DDS, 1:30 January 31, 2024
Initial 3D Print/Laser Consultation February 7, 2024
Intent to 3D Print for final review- sign up for slot March 1, 2024
Final Model Due By April 15th, based on appointment
