Finding Music Items

There's no need to learn every LC number, but it can be helpful to find the classification numbers that apply to the areas you are researching.  Here are some key classes to know for general research:

• M 2 - Collections of music with multiple composers: Denkmäler, Monuments, etc.
• M 3 - Collected works of individual composers (by last name)
• ML 1 - US Periodicals (by title)
• ML 5 - Foreign Periodicals (by title)
• ML 100-102 - Encyclopedias/Dictionaries 
• ML 134 - Composer bibliographies (by last name)
• ML 410 - Composer biographies (by last name)

Some especially useful books, normally in ML 100-102 & ML 134, are in the reference collection and some are in the stacks so make sure to check both locations for helpful sources.
