"Nancy, every place you go, it seems as if mysteries just pile up one after another."
--Carolyn Keene, The Message in the Hollow Oak
The mystery genre contains stories with narration in which one or more elements remain unknown until the end; the stories are like puzzles, where the reader is given one piece at a time to try to figure out the big picture.
Thriller genre stories are intended to arouse feelings of excitement or suspense, and sometimes fear. The level of terror sometimes makes thriller genre stories borderline on horror.
