Literature in the Irish Language

A guide to Irish language literature in the Hesburgh Libraries, and to resources for the study of Irish literature and the Irish language.

Irish Language Literature in the Hesburgh Libraries

The Hesburgh Library has a large collection of Irish language and literature in the PB area, currently housed on the 8th floor. The LC classification for Irish language encompasses the range PB 1200 to PB 1449.  This area includes anthologies and critical works as well as fiction, poetry and plays in Irish. It also includes books on the Irish language and linguistics.

There are also substantial Irish language collections in the Hesburgh Rare Books and Special Collections. Areas of concentration are fiction and plays.  The collection includes a number of religious texts from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.  There is a strong collection of the works of various writers of the Irish Revival, and the twentieth century collection is strong in all genres of Irish language literature.
