2A: Precedent Analysis
Analyze a minimum of two aedicule examples. Select one from Precedent Folder 1 in the G-Drive. The second may be another example from Precedent Folder 1, or, from the collection in Precedent Folder 2, or one from your library research as long as it has both an elevation and a plan. For each aedicule example, develop analysis diagrams on trace. Compose the final analysis diagrams on an 11x17 sheet of vellum. You may use pencil, black and color pens / markers / sharpies, etc. or any combination thereof. Analytical diagrams are to include:
1. Elevation
1.1. Parti – showing Rhythm (e.g. A/B/A, etc.), Hierarchy, Emphasis/Stresses 1.2. Regulating Geometries / Proportions (e.g. 1:1; 1:2/; root rectangles, golden section, etc.) 1.3. Layering/Massing – Show the number of planes that form the composition (e.g. Wall
Plane(s), Pilasters, Engaged Columns, Freestanding Columns, Appended Details) 1.4. Horizontal and Vertical Alignments
1.5. Symmetry – Overall Symmetry/Local Symmetry
2. Plan
2.1. Layering – Show the number of planes that form the composition (e.g. Wall Plane(s), Pilasters, Engaged Columns, Freestanding Columns)
3. Detail
3.1. Order(s) – Proportions, Type
3.2. Articulation of Order, Wall, Entablature - Nomenclature of Elements / Components
