Introduction

The Hesburgh Library collections on Irish history are extensive and varied. The guide helps students find their way to books, newspapers, digital archives, films and reference databases.

Maps and the Landscape

The Hesburgh Library has a large collection of early printed maps of Ireland in the Rare Books and Special Collections. RBSC also holds various maps from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

The map cabinets in the Lower Level, Hesburgh Library, hold a number of large-scale Ordnance Survey maps of the western part of county Galway.

The atlas stand by the Reference Area of the Hesburgh Library holds the Atlas of Ireland published by the Royal Irish Academy.
