These resources will help you find books in print and electronic formats that are held by Notre Dame, other local libraries, or at other libraries worldwide. Books not directly available through the Hesburgh Libraries system may be accessible through Interlibrary Loan.

ND Catalog
ND Catalog lets you search the holdings of the Hesburgh Libraries, Kresge Law, and Holy Cross libraries' catalogs separately or together. It includes content from the University Archives, the Center for Research Libraries, and working papers from the Institute for Latino Studies.

Worldcat is the combined book catalog of more than 9,000 libraries in the US and worldwide, including the Hesburgh Libraries. With millions of online records from the bibliographic and ownership information of contributing libraries, it is the largest and most comprehensive database of its kind. Most of the books in Worldcat can be requested through Interlibrary loan.
HathiTrust Digital Library This link opens in a new window
HathiTrust is a veritable rare books library at your fingertips! The database brings together fully viewable digitized versions of published works that are in the public domain (that is, books no longer under copyright protection). As such, the database unites millions of books published prior to 1923, representing an awesome resource for scholars.
Sabin Americana, 1500-1926 This link opens in a new window
Based on Joseph Sabin's landmark bibliography, Bibliotheca Americana: A Dictionary of Books Relating to America from Its Discovery to the Present Time, this online collection provides full text facsimile viewing of books, pamphlets, serials and other documents related to the Americas published from 1500 to the early 1900's.
Center for Research Libraries catalog This link opens in a new window
The Center for Research Libraries (CRL) in Chicago, is the library for libraries. The CRL catalog provides online access to over 500,000 bibliographic records representing CRL's scholarly research resources. Some material is digitized and accessible online, and most is available by Interlibrary loan for Notre Dame students and faculty.

Primeros Libros
The Primeros Libros de las Américas: Impresos Americanos del Siglo XVI en las Bibliotecas del Mundo project is a digital collection of the first books printed in the Americas before 1601. These monographs are very important because they represent the first printing in the New World and provide primary sources for scholarly studies in a variety of academic fields. Of the 220 editions believed to have been produced in Mexico and 20 in Peru, approximately 155 are represented in institutions around the world.

It is a search engine that indexes and lists articles from thousands of journals and databases, including those listed below. Use the facets on the left to refine your search. The resources listed below are more useful for targeted searching in specific fields of study.

The databases listed below are multidisciplinary collections of scholarly resources. Most gather links to and citations for scholarly articles, although some contain additional information on books and other resources.

Declassified U.S. Government documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act by the National Security Archive, an independent non-governmental research institute and library at George Washington University. The Digital National Security Archive provides enhanced access to a selected portion of the NSA collection.
Handbook of Latin American studies This link opens in a new window
A multi-disciplinary bibliography of books and articles on Latin America, which have been selected and annotated by scholars in their respective field. Edited by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress since 1936, the searchable database provides a near comprehensive listing of the most important published works on many disciplines for Latin America.

Covers the international literature of sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences. It provides abstracting and indexing of articles and book reviews drawn from thousands of serials publications, plus books, book chapters, dissertations, conference papers, and working papers.

Database that indexes research from hundreds of journals, many of them from Latin America. Many include full text links. A strong social science/science component.

Seligson Political Culture Survey Archive
The archive consists of 82 surveys conducted in 17 countries between 1975 and 2005. Included among the datasets is the "Seligson-Gómez Data Bank of Surveys on the Political Culture of Democracy in Costa Rica."
