Near East Reference Collection

The Near Eastern Reference Collection is found in 714B Hesburgh Library, located inside the Stavros Niarchos Byzantine and Classics Reading Room (714 Hesburgh Library).  The collection is complete, the result of a library acquisitions grant awarded to Professor Gabriel Said Reynolds (Theology) for the purchase of the materials. The space was donated by the Medieval Institute's then-director, Professsor Olivia Remie Constable (d. 2014).  The works in this collection include primary texts in their original languages, commentaries, scholarly works, lexicons, encyclopedias, and geographical works, all selected with the intent to support research on the interaction of cultures in the Mediterranean and Near East, with an emphasis on the interaction between Islam and Christianity. Materials in the Near Eastern Reference Collection have a light gray sticker and location information on their library location label.
